New Canon : Sleek and Powerful..Enough

Pros: Large LCD, Good Quality Pictures, Easy to Use, Very Compact
Cons: Battery and Memory Card in the same space, Few Manual Controls

The bottom line: I would highly recommend this camera to any casual photographer willing to spend a little more for a really good quality camera.

I've been using a Canon Powershot SD1000 for a couple of weeks now.

First off, the good. It has so far performed very well. It is by far the smallest camera I have ever owned, but it is easy to hold and handle. The LCD is big and easy to see, and the menu controls are easy to understand. It's shutter speed is quick and the picture quality is wonderful for the size of the camera. Videos came out great and the sound quality on them was surprisingly good. I had no major problems with this camera. It was all I expected.

And now, the bad. While this camera performs well for it's size, it doesn't have the quality of the many larger and more professional cameras. One "con" that I read about before I ever bought it, was that the memory card and the battery were in the same slot on the camera. While it didn't seem like a big deal at the time, I have found it a little annoying. Getting the memory card out without removing the battery first can be difficult. If I had much larger fingers, I don't know if I could without removing the battery. This camera doesn't have much in the way of manual controls. It is really a casual or amateur photographer's camera, not a professional.

In conclusion, this a very powerful, ultra-compact camera. It's size allows you to take it anywhere and catch that candid shot. It is great for it's size and a wonderful camera for any casual photographer. Pictures come out clear and crisp and it's easy to use. With only a few small annoyances, I'd say it's one of the best compact cameras out there.
